This is a great post about the power of words, thoughts... and sankalpa. I am quite new to yoga nidra and find it all quite fascinating and like the example of negative sankalpa here. I'll share this in my newsletter on Sunday. Thank you.

I know this practice as the magic question. Plant a seed that aims the mind in the direction you want it to look. β€œHow can I make today amazing?” β€œWhat is one way that my body supports me every day?” β€œWhat can I do for wife today that will bring a smile to her face?”

Phew! When I read the first part of this I thought it was going to be the first post I've read from you that I didn't align with. πŸ˜‚ (Because I always do and feel like i could or have, written the same/similar myself).

I thought wait, what!?...Sankalpas have a dark side? Oh, do I have this completely wrong, do I need to sack myself as a yoga teacher!? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Luckily not the case... I still align fully with your post πŸ‘

I find a Sankalpa super helpful in my life. I don't subscribe to the new year, new you, intention setting, commercial, pop psychology, (whatever we want to call it) resolution setting and I often talk about Sankalpa in my classes at this time of year and at any other time that might feel relevant and supportive to people.

I see a Sankalpa as more spacious, positive & gentle than a NY resolution. Something that is open ended, to work with as long as you need to (rather than an end destination or you've failed, like a NY resolution).

A Sankalpa, I feel, is very personal & meaningful to YOU & as it's set in the present tense, it is always there to help support you through the ups & downs of this crazy world we live in.

I say NY resolutions & media created negativity, like Blue Monday, are the dark side πŸ˜‚ and Sankalpa is the light ✨️✨️✨️❀️

Great title though πŸ˜‰

Love your voice & writing πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ

I'd love to hear your definition of Sankalpa. I think of it as an intention that moves our life to and in support of our dharma

the title and even blue monday reference was a bit tongue in cheek πŸ˜‚ but my definition is broadly similar - setting an intention or resolve in the positive, in a way that aligns with your true self, so you can be open to calling more of that into your life

thanks for sharing. I totally understood the tongue and cheek :) I was just curious on how you defined it. Thanks for replying!
