When I teach samavritti pranayama, I explain it first, then do a few rounds of counting for them, then a few rounds for them to do on their own (without me counting). I let them know they can always shorten or lengthen the count from what I say. Good reminder in flow sequences though to remind students they can be ahead or behind of what I say in their own pace!

That’s a nice balance! So much power is in that permission, just reminding them they dont HAVE to follow along to do it ‘right’

As a new teacher have heard myself doing this recently and have cringed! I think I’m trying to fill the quiet but that is no excuse . I am consciously not doing this in my next class!! Thank you for the reminder and let’s see how I go as I would hate it myself

That desire to fill the quiet is so real! If I find myself trying to ‘do something’ or not leaving enough space, I just count in my head but stay quiet out loud lol. Did you give it a go?!
